Canards can serve a range of purposes. Ours were specifically shaped to improve:
1. aero braking
2. add front-end downforce and drag reduction (compared to a tire spat).  
3. Create a lower pressure zone around the front wheel to improve brake cooling. 

Our CFD simulations projected that these add 15lbs of downforce, with 2lbs of drag at 100 mph compared to a stock MK7 golf. Yaw improved by 2lbs.
Translating this to the real world, one of our early adopters using this canard improved their top end speed at Summit Point Main by .8 mph, lap time by .3 seconds. Your results will vary, depending on the other aero on your car, spring rates, HP, etc. This information is just a reference point.

So you may be asking, will I feel this? It depends. We have completed a range of CFD testing on various cars and aero setups, followed by on track testing to quantify how much downforce and drag different drivers can feel behind the wheel. While it does range depending on the experience of the driver, the cars suspension and whole list of other factors. We have concluded that ~30lbs of DF at 100mph is the threshold where the average driver will feel a difference. Keep in mind that  multiple smaller aero devices on a car can add up to make an impactful difference. If you need to balance a large wing, we suggest pairing these with an endplate on your splitter, and/or a tire spat to cover any tire poke to dial in a good vehicle balance.

DISCLAIMER: B level finish - This part is designed to be functional first, and cosmetic second. We strive to achieve a quality finish on every one of these parts. However, be aware that this is a handmade part. The layup, cutting, sanding and clear coat is all applied by hand which can leave behind minor surface blemishes. The visible weave may not be perfectly straight on the part. The underside of the canard has a matte finish from the peel-ply layer. part may still contain pinholes and orange peel that would require further sanding and top coats to get a perfect finish.

Carbon Fiber & Fiberglass - Finish Levels

We use this finish level description to set expectations when ordering a composite part from us. All parts are checked for adequate epoxy resin penetration through the layers. The level is describing the surface finish, not the quality of the composite. We use hand layup, vacuum infusion, and pre-preg (dry carbon) materials depending on the volume and size of the part. This list applies to all composite parts. 

For example: Carbon parts on the bottom of the track car don't need to look as good as a mirror cap at eye level on a show car. The parts under your car will get peppered with road debris; so cost and function is often more important than cosmetics. C and D level parts have the least labor involved, and therefore provide the best value. All of our composite parts are made in Pennsylvania, USA. 

  • A level - Thick gelcoat or epoxy top coat to even out the entire finish. Part is sanded to a smooth finish. You can buff it yourself for a perfect finish. These parts will weigh more than a B&C level part from the added surface coatings. The labor is also significantly higher (2-3x) and reflected in the total price. 
  • B level - Part has clear coating. Pinholes have been filled, but may be visible. These parts can be wet sanded down when you receive it, and further finished with more top coats to improve the appearance of the part and achieve an A level finish (add gloss/depth). You can run the part without out of the box without additional UV protection, but it will not be cosmetically perfect. 
  • C level - Part is cut to size, mold release washed off. Pinholes may be visible. No clear-coat is applied. Distorted weaves or visible stray fibers may be present. We consider these parts the most affordable "finished" option, and best suited for a track car where they will see wear and tear, so appearance is not the primary goal, but function, price and weight savings is. They will have a light satin or semi gloss finish from the mold surface. Our epoxy's do have a UV stabilizer, but will begin to yellow if exposed to the sun on a daily basis. Depending on the position of the part on the car, that may not matter. e.g. A hood gets more UV exposure vs a belly pan. 
  • D level - Raw part pulled off the mold that is cut to size with no top coat. We wash off the mold release. This is considered a DIY part that you can cut to size for your application and finish it yourself with a rattle can clear coat. Also applies to scratch and dent parts that have distorted weaves or other cosmetic defects.Â
