This product has been in development for over a year, but we have been building brake ducting options for longer. We sent out numerous prototypes of this product to be tested on different platforms (Tested on Audi TTRS, Audi RS3, Mk7 Golf R, MK6 Golf R). The results from all 4 users were increased pad life (some doubled pad life!), longer sessions without cool down laps needed, and reduced lap times because the driver felt more confident in the pads staying within optimal operating temperature range for longer.

Performance: 

We designed this solution to provide an easier install, and cheaper to service than brake ducting. Routing hoses on MQB cars is difficult because of space constraints, typically limiting you to 2-2.5" hose. @60mph vehicle speed 2.5" hose in a best case scenario will push ~180 CFM however with turns and wire flex hose, the efficiency is much less. Our deflectors can push conservatively over 200 CFM with less restriction. This is effectively an XL version of an OEM RS3 brake deflector. Our positioning is improved, and the aprons of the duct capture more air from a better pressure position under the car. 

Construction:

  • The duct is made of a carbon fiber with an S-glass blend with high temp epoxy resin. S glass is a more durable fiberglass mat, and gives the deflectors more durability than a pure carbon part. 
  • The mount is made of 5052 powder coated aluminum, the total assembly is under 4lbs. (exception: aftermarket LCA bracket is 3d printed polycarbonate)
  • This part is hand laid and vacuum cured at our Phoenixville PA shop to build a durable lightweight part. Due to the handmade nature of the process, there will be small surface imperfections. The back side of the part will have a raw peel ply appearance. Top coated with 2K matte clear. C- level finish - see below for more details on our finish grades.

Fitment:

Select the appropriate control arm to match your car. The deflector is the same for all options, but the mounting bracket is different for each control arm. We have confirmed fitment with OEM calipers and 529 Innovations Wilwood calipers. Other options may need minor trimming of the deflector at full lock. 

  • If you are using LCA's with Superpro inserts or JXB inserts -  select OEM steel. These options occasionally use Audi steel LCA's, but we include spacers to fit VW or Audi stampings.

Other Considerations:

  • CFD simulation estimates that these add 7lbs of drag, and 10lbs of downforce. Based on previous testing we have found anything under 30lbs of downforce @ 100mph is unlikely to be notable as a driver on a production car. Data is provided for reference only and not a guarantee of performance. Ride height, and any other aero elements can affect these values. 
  • We recommend only using these while on track. They are low to the ground, and have a high likelihood of damage from road debris during street driving.
  • Adding fender vents will also increase the effectiveness of these deflectors. 

Disclaimers:

Your results will vary depending on your setup and driving style. We cannot and do not make guarantees because there are too many variables involved. This is not a 'quick fix' for using street pads and DOT fluid on track. These should be used in conjunction with track specific pads, rotors and fluid to gain optimal performance.

  • Audi TT RS MK3 (2018-2023) - We believe they will work on other 8S model years, but haven't installed them to confirm.

Carbon Fiber & Fiberglass - Finish Levels

We use this finish level description to set expectations when ordering a composite part from us. All parts are checked for adequate epoxy resin penetration through the layers. The level is describing the surface finish, not the quality of the composite. We use hand layup, vacuum infusion, and pre-preg (dry carbon) materials depending on the volume and size of the part. This list applies to all composite parts. 

For example: Carbon parts on the bottom of the track car don't need to look as good as a mirror cap at eye level on a show car. The parts under your car will get peppered with road debris; so cost and function is often more important than cosmetics. C and D level parts have the least labor involved, and therefore provide the best value. All of our composite parts are made in Pennsylvania, USA. 

  • A level - Thick gelcoat or epoxy top coat to even out the entire finish. Part is sanded to a smooth finish. You can buff it yourself for a perfect finish. These parts will weigh more than a B&C level part from the added surface coatings. The labor is also significantly higher (2-3x) and reflected in the total price. 
  • B level - Part has clear coating. Pinholes have been filled, but may be visible. These parts can be wet sanded down when you receive it, and further finished with more top coats to improve the appearance of the part and achieve an A level finish (add gloss/depth). You can run the part without out of the box without additional UV protection, but it will not be cosmetically perfect. 
  • C level - Part is cut to size, mold release washed off. Pinholes may be visible. No clear-coat is applied. Distorted weaves or visible stray fibers may be present. We consider these parts the most affordable "finished" option, and best suited for a track car where they will see wear and tear, so appearance is not the primary goal, but function, price and weight savings is. They will have a light satin or semi gloss finish from the mold surface. Our epoxy's do have a UV stabilizer, but will begin to yellow if exposed to the sun on a daily basis. Depending on the position of the part on the car, that may not matter. e.g. A hood gets more UV exposure vs a belly pan. 
  • D level - Raw part pulled off the mold that is cut to size with no top coat. We wash off the mold release. This is considered a DIY part that you can cut to size for your application and finish it yourself with a rattle can clear coat. Also applies to scratch and dent parts that have distorted weaves or other cosmetic defects.
